Seasons Greetings from Computer Geeks

23.12.20

It’s been a busy year here at Computer Geeks and an interesting year for all of us. From going serverless to powering up our team and supporting you to work remotely through a pandemic, 2020 has been a successful time for Computer Geeks.

Christmas is the perfect time to give back to the community, this year in particular. And to say thank you for all of the support you’ve given us, instead of gifts this year, we are donating £1000 to a chosen charity. FareShare South West forms part of the UK’s largest food charity, FareShare. They tackle food poverty by redistributing quality, in date surplus food which would have otherwise gone to waste, turning an environmental problem into a social solution. Lets toast to the last 12 months as we look forward to what 2021 has in store.

We’re serverless!

2020 marked the end of our ‘going serverless’ cloud-first transformation with the removal and safe recycling of our on-premise servers, old hardware, hundreds of cables, and of course our server rack.

Over the past year, we’ve worked hard on our own project; we’ve successfully migrated from 9 servers to 0 in our office, moved our 100TB off-site backup service to a secure Tier 3 Datacenter, moved all our data into SharePoint and Teams as well as everything else that happens during a migration to the cloud!

Because of this, we have massively reduced cost, liability and risk and increased our innovation – which is one of our 4 company values here at Geeks.

We’ve worked towards sustainability

As part of our ‘going serverless’ journey, we’ve managed to significantly reduce our office power consumption by over 50%.

We launched Geeks Voice

This year we boxed up all of our desk phones and said goodbye to them with the introduction of Microsoft Teams calling, which we now offer as a packaged up Geeks Voice solution.

This has helped us to streamline our communications onto one platform and has made remote working much easier. It’s also made the office a much more pleasant place to work, without a constant ring of phones, as they now ring through our headsets.

All systems go

At Computer Geeks, we always want to be improving the service for our clients and so this year we invested in a secure IT documentation platform. We’ve also upped our internal IT security, having migrated to Azure AD and MFA-protected all of our devices and Cloud Systems to keep data safe.

Powering up our team

We have been busy growing and increasing value in our team. 2020 has brought us a lot of change in our team, with a few new faces among us.

As well as growing in numbers, we’ve been increasing our collective value to our clients. We’ve worked hard to gain further qualifications meaning we can better serve you.

Because of this, we felt as though we needed to re-brand our Service Desk and over the next few months you may see a small difference to our team, but no need for you to worry, you can still expect the same fantastic support!

Thank you

From all of us at Computer Geeks, we’d like to thank you for your custom in 2020.

We wish you a happy holidays and a wonderful new year, and look forward to supporting you in 2021!
